Entrance to Strandfontein beach temporarily closed
12 November 2020
The entrance to Strandfontein beach will be temporarily closed from Monday, 16 November 2020 to Monday, 30 November 2020.
The City of Cape Town informs residents that the entrance to Strandfontein beach, next to the Pavilion, will be closed for a period of two weeks from Monday 16 November while contractors construct a new wooden staircase for public access. This forms part of the decommissioning of the Strandfontein desalination site.
Residents are reminded that all applicable safety practices and procedures will apply. We kindly request that beachgoers avoid the construction site and make use of the rest of the facilities at Strandfontein instead. There are alternative access points to the beach. The Strandfontein Tidal Pool will also stay open to the public.
The City wants to thank residents in advance for their patience and cooperation, while the team works to restore the desalination site to the required condition.
Residents are also advised that further beach closures in future will be necessary to allow for removal of undersea infrastructure. Challenging sea conditions are currently preventing this.
